Which ones actually get you interviews

Paperclip's founder spent two years as an analyst at a bulge bracket bank and interviewed analyst candidates there. The ones who got interviews had almost always talked to someone at the firm first. Job boards tell you where to apply and courses get you through the technical questions, but neither puts your name in front of the team. That comes from emails to analysts and associates, sent to enough people and followed up.

Job board or networking platform

A job board lists openings and takes your application. A networking platform helps you reach the people who decide who gets interviewed. Most students need one of each: a job board (often the one your school already provides) to track deadlines, and a way to reach analysts at the banks on their list.

When to start

Freshman or sophomore year. Banks take summer analyst applications more than a year before the internship, and freshman and sophomore programs (insight days, early-ID programs and diversity summits) open in the fall. Our freshman and sophomore programs guide lists the ones open now, with dates from each firm.

Free options

Coastal Haven Partners is free for candidates, BreakIn has a free plan, and Paperclip's school alumni lookup shows which banks hire from your school without an account. Paid courses and coaching are worth it for a specific gap, like modeling tests or mock superdays.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best platforms for students going into investment banking?

It depends on the job: a job board such as Handshake for openings, a course such as Wall Street Prep or Breaking Into Wall Street for technicals, and an outreach tool such as Paperclip or BreakIn to reach analysts. Interviews mostly come from those conversations, so the outreach matters most.

Do recruiting platforms work for non-target students?

The outreach ones help most, because non-target students get fewer campus events. Start with alumni of your school at the banks your school already feeds.

Which investment banking recruiting platforms are free?

Coastal Haven Partners is free for candidates, BreakIn has a free plan, and Paperclip's school alumni lookup is free without an account.

How is Paperclip different from RecruitU?

RecruitU helps you find people, events and deadlines, and you send the emails. Paperclip picks the analysts and associates and sends the emails for you from your own inbox every weekday, stopping follow-ups once someone replies.
