Investment Banking Cold Email Templates for Students

Original alumni and non-alumni email examples, subject lines, and a personalization checklist for asking bankers for a career conversation.

Alumni introduction template

Use this only when you actually share a school. These are original examples to adapt, not messages with measured response rates.

When you do not share a school

Choose a real connection to their experience. Avoid generic praise or pretending to have read something you have not opened.

Before you send

Verify the name, current employer, connection, and subject line. Remove any sentence that could be sent unchanged to hundreds of people. Make the request understandable without opening an attachment.

Send a resume if requested or if the recruiting context calls for one. If the person declines or asks not to be contacted, respect that request. Track your send date to avoid duplicate outreach.

Frequently asked questions

What subject line should I use?

Use an accurate description such as “[School] student interested in [group].” Avoid fake reply prefixes, false referrals, and misleading urgency.
